About Duhos

The Student community “Spirituality of Osijek students” (Duhovnost osječkih studenata) gathers students of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek.

The community is gathered around the university chaplain p. Arkadiusz Krasicki, CSSp who is a soul carer of the students at the University of Osijek.

The community is certainly opened towards all of the students, and it is visited often by working youth, professors of the University of Osijek, as well as other citizens. As everybody is welcome in faith, collectiveness and spiritual development, the Duhos community, organized without any formal structure and hierarchy, is also priorly opened to all university students and others who feel comfortable with the contents of the community.

 

The role of student’s chaplain

Student (university) chaplain at the University of J.J.Strossmayer has been working as such since 2006. The first and current chaplain is p. Arkadiusz Krasicki, CSSp. (p.Arek) from the Holy Spirit Community.

 

The Acting Organization

DUHOS is an organization firstly realised informally as a students’ community by university chaplain of J. J. Strossmayer University p. Arkadiusz Krasicki, CSSp, in context of his acting at the mentioned university. A few divisions have been developed through the years of working. These are actually main thematic fields, precisely said, spiritual contents and activities which are part and parcel of others, such as educational activities, volunteering field of activities, as well as contents connected with the improvement of student and everyday life.

The main and executive role in DUHOS is carried out by the current Osijek university chaplain p. Arkadiusz Krasicki, around whose function the whole DUHOS is gathered as a community and organization of people. It gathers students in the first place, then working youth and professors who all act as volunteers of organization, led by the acting mission of their organised activity. They all are trying to make no financial interest but a contribution to the university and the community.

 

DUHOS’ Mission

DUHOS’ Mission as a community is intake of robust spirituality and spirituality in all aspects of modern student and everyday life at the University of J.J.Strossmayer, with the special emphasis on the religion and knowledge as two complementary dimensions.

 

Slogan

The main inspiration is spreading the faith and knowledge as two complementary dimensions at the University of J.J.Strossmayer.

The inspiration can be found in this Bible line: "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch." Lk 5,4

 

Portal www.duhos.com

DUHOS community exists virtually over the portal www.duhos.com which came into existence four years ago. The portal has been made in CMS Joomla and is regularly updated by the students of DUHOS.

Various texts on spiritual inspiration, reports, DUHOS news, students’ testimonies, information about DUHOS activity, and invitations to actual gatherings can be found daily on the portal. Some of well-visited portal columns are:

Activities

The students involved in DUHOS initiated gradually a line of actions and meetings of different kinds which have been growing in number over the years of existence. More fields of activity have been formed in this way, such as some divisions in which the activity takes place.

All the DUHOS activities are held under the spiritual mentorship and responsibility of university chaplain p.Arek. Near spiritual and educational contents, for which university chaplain is responsible, there is also a line of other contents initiated and held in DUHOS community.

From 2012./2013. focus is on spiritual contents and volunteer work.

 

Spiritual Contents

Spiritual contents are initially led by the university chaplain and include bowing and saint masses, which take place regularly in the Chapel of “Snježna Gospa” in Osijek from the academic year 2010/2011. Besides that, the community gathers together in prayer (the community of prayers “PURE HEART” every Wednesday), spiritual revivals and seminars.

 

Educational activities

The headway in learning and knowledge is of great importance for every student and every young person in general. P. Arek takes care of these activities, too. He organizes foreign language courses (English and Italian), guitar school, and small language school- public speaking course. The courses are held in shifts at weekly level, and public speaking school is held a few times in year, depending on groups.

Besides that, great emphasis is put on scientific public discussions organized by Comission for students’ pastoral of Đakovačko-osječka archdiocese and p.Arek. The discussions take place every month and relate to actual themes connected in a modern way with the spirituality.

 

Spiritual Library - The project of SPIRITUAL LIBRARY has been initiated in DUHOS since 2010, and it relates closely to the opening and acting of humble but functional library of spiritual books which can be borrowed by students for free in the “EFOS” (Faculty of Economics) office. The library consists of over 500 titles available to the students of whole university.

 

Volunteering

Engagement around people in need is one of the activities of DUHOS community. According to agreement, students volunteer together a few times in month in Orphans’ home Klasje and residential home in Osijek.

 

Improvement of Student and Everyday Life

Spirituality is not something lived only in church or during our personal or joint prayer. The sane spirituality includes the whole person and enhances every aspect of life, especially students’. In this way, Duhos gives a chance and help to young people in order to develop themselves fully and thoroughly, while doing good to themselves and others., emphasizes university chaplain.

The meetings such as, bicycling tours, barbecuing, gatherings in new student’s dorm or “EFOS” office, Pilgrimages to Aljmas, spiritual travel to the seaside, the actions of collecting things for people in need (e.g. Students for Students), students’ choir VIS DIOS, contribute a lot, near personal conversations and care of the students’ chaplain, to young people in spiritual as well as in any other kind of personal prosperity.
